As you may or may not know, we recently completed recording our first ever Druyd CD.  Now, the boys have done several solo or group projects before, but this is the first ever CD that we’ve done as Druyd.  And to promote it, Danka took us hostage, blindfolded us, packed us into a car and released us into an unknown forest so that she could interview us about it.  She had to do this because of course we didn’t want to go of our own free will.

However, there was one question that Danka asked during the interview that really made me stop and think – what is Dronas?  Besides being the name of our CD and meaning “drowning” in esperanto, what does Dronas really mean?  My answer for the interview was dribble (what else?) and got cut out (thank God!) but when I thought about it later, it all became a bit clearer.  Dronas is a person.  Let me explain it for you…

You see, to me, the process of making Dronas is like making a person.  Now, the classical way of making a person is sex – and that’s what I compare to the composing stage.  Sometimes you don’t know what you’re doing, sometimes you hit the right spot and when you’re done, it’s like bliss.  Then comes conception or taking the composition to the next level, making it into a “proper” song, knocking it about a bit and stuff.  Well, then you’ve got to carry this little embryo around for nine or so months – and that’s the rehearsing bit where the songs develop and grow and truly become a part of you.  Well, you’ve carried this baby around for nine months, then you have to give birth, right?  That’s setting up the recording process.  Painful stuff.  Mikes here, instruments there, searching for the perfect sound, cords, jacks…  Argh!  But then you record and finish recording – and give birth – and you have this little tiny baby.  It’s here, it’s alive, but it’s still just a baby.  It needs to grow up, learn a bit more about the world, go to school and stuff – and that’s the production stage.  And our producer, Niksha, is a true Gandalf when it comes to mixing and producing and.  And together we turned our little baby into the best person we can imagine.  Now, we could have left it at this stage, but we wanted our young adult to get a tertiary education too – so we sent it to the mastering engineer – to give him a bit of polish and poise.

And so, our person, will be standing freely and fully in front of you any day now…

Until soon dear friends…
