I just finished reading “The Little Prince” to my kiddies.  It’s my absolute favourite book in the world and is the first book I ever read to them when they were born.  And every time I read it, I’m always struck with the poignant themes in the book.  But with my recent read, the love and attention that the Little Prince gave the rose struck me more than ever.

Love and attention that the Little Prince gave the rose struck me more than ever

This is what he said to a garden of roses he encountered in the book:

“You are beautiful, but you are empty,” he went on. “One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose looked just like you – the rose that belongs to me. But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundreds of you other roses: because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or ever sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose.”

And I see a parallel in our little consort called Druyd.

Many people may look at us and see us just as any other of the million bands that exist in this universe.  But to me, our band is the most important band in the world and above all others.  Because it is this band that I rehearse with at least three times a week; because it is this band that I practise at home for; because it is this band that I try to promote whenever, wherever and however I can; because it is this band that I think about countless times a day; because it is this band that I share my life with.  Because it is my band.

People may see us as any other of the million bands that exist in this universe. But to me...

Thank you for your lovely words Nadine. I love the Little Prince too, very much so. I always try to see what’s essential, what’s invisible 🙂
